Margaret Gossett, a Trustee for Citizens for Health, Safety and Welfare (CHSW) will speak about the fledgling organization's first milestone victory defeating the rezoning of the 26.6 acre tract called Waterview in Parsippany, NJ. The completion of nearby Interstate 287 created a climate in which it has been threatened with development despite its rugged topography, environmental constraints, wildlife habitat and protection by Parsippany's steep slope ordinance. The most recent threat of development was RD Realty's proposal to build 195,000 square feet of big box retail as well as 60 town houses with more than 80% impervious coverage. Ms Gossett will emphasize how this grass-roots committee came into being and what tactics were most effective in marshalling support to bring about this victory. It is surely a story that all of us can learn from.
