The first day, we will hike in about 4 or 5 mi. from the bottom of Ash Creek Trail (4400’) to either Oak Flat (6300’) or farther up to the 7000’ level. Day two will take us to the top of the Ash Creek switchbacks at 7600’ where we will drop our packs and hike up to the “cat walk” at 8300’. We will then hike 6 mi. to the “Horse Camp” on Shingle Mill Trail at 6000’. The final day, we will walk 6 mi. out on Shingle Mill Trail, ending the trip at the 3600’. Ash Creek Trail features waterfalls and a beautiful riparian area. Shingle Mill Canyon is wide open with expansive views. We will talk about the wilderness potential for this Wilderness Study Area as well as the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act. Contact Jim Vaaler at 602-553-8208 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
