Take a leisurely stroll in New Jersey Botanical Gardens (Ringwood, Passaic County) at the peak of its bloom and hike in the neighboring woods. Approximately 4 miles/3 hrs., 300 ft. altitude gain, slow pace (I'm getting too old to run up the hill ...).

This is my annual spring outing. I was there recently (April 19): only forsythia bushes were covered with yellow flowers and daffodils were raising their yellow heads. But the lilac bushes, the famous attraction of the Gardens, were still dormant, poised to explode in about two weeks; we had a long winter and late spring this year, that's why I'm running this outing later than usual.

Optional lunch after the walk in a very nice, yet inexpensive, local restaurant.
