Thursdays in May: May 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, 2014, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM St. Joseph’s Midweek Hike Rating: 1A1 (4.0 miles, 900 feet) Easy Are you new to hiking? Had a break from hiking for a while? Want to take advantage of the longer days to get some exercise in the middle of the week at a scenic Open Space Preserve close to home? Join us on this comfortably paced evening hike as we work our way to the top of St. Joseph’s Hill, near downtown Los Gatos. Those who want to charge quickly up the hill to get more of a workout are also welcome. We’ll all get to the top eventually. Walking mostly along an old stage coach road, we will share great views of the Sierra Azul Range and pass through Chaparral, Woodland, and Grassland, keeping our eyes open for displays of wildflowers. Take Hwy 17 toward Los Gatos. Exit at Hwy 9 Los Gatos/Saratoga and turn left at the first light, University Ave. Go to the end of University, turn left on E Main St, then right on College Ave and then right on Jones Rd. The trailhead is at the end of Jones Rd where you will find street parking only. Wear hiking shoes and bring water and a snack. Hiking poles are useful. Please, no dogs.
