Date: Saturday, October 28, 2017
Time: 9:30 AM
Presented by: Poudre Canyon Group
Leader: Charles G Kopp - 970-672-8597 charleskop@centurylink.net
Level: Moderate
Location: Coyote Ridge Trail, Fort Collins, CO 80526, USA

Join our group for a scenic and moderate, out and back 7.2 mile ramble in the foothills between Fort Collins and Loveland!

From a start at about 5,000 ft., we'll ascend 600 ft., up Coyote Ridge for a panorama of the eastern plains and the elevations to the west. Then join the Rimrock Trail and descend into a wide valley, before ascending to the next ridge of about the same elevation, for more mountain vistas and a connection with our destination---The Blue Sky Trail---before heading back. This popular 10-mile trail runs beneath the rimrock on the edge of the next valley, and there will be an option to hike a short distance on it if the group is up to it.

There will be opportunities for wildlife sightings, such as prairie dogs, mule deer, coyotes, and raptors in these Fort Collins and Larimer County Natural and Open Space areas. Hikers should have sufficient food and water, sun protection for open terrain, warm layers of clothing, and proper footwear---hiking boots recommended. PETS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THIS AREA.

Directions: From Fort Collins and Loveland---take Taft Hill Rd., (Wilson Ave. in Loveland) to 3 miles south of Harmony Rd. in Fort Collins (1 mile south of the Larimer County Landfill), to the parking lot for the Coyote Ridge Natural Area on the west side of the road. From I-25: Take either north or south to Exit 265 for E. Harmony Rd. in Fort Collins. Then head west across town to where Harmony Rd. ends at Taft Hill Rd. Turn left (south) on Taft Hill Rd., and go 3 miles to the parking lot for the Coyote Ridge Natural Area on the right side.

Limited to 12 people, registration required, please email Charlie at charleskop@centurylink.net. Feel free to contact the leader with any questions.
